MVA with Overturn on Route 231

Thursday afternoon September 19, 2013 North Babylon Firefighters and Rescue personnel responded to a motor vehicle a accident with reported overturn on Route 231 and August Road. The accident involved two motorcycles and a Ford Escape SUV. One of the motorcycles allegedly collided with the rear of the Ford sending it out of control causing it to roll over onto it's roof. The two motorcycles involved were seriously damaged and one of the riders suffered critical injuries. Two people from the Ford, a woman and her grandchild were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by North Babylon Ambulance 1-8-17. The injured motorcyclist was also taken to Good Samaritan by Deer Park F.D. Ambulance 1-4-3 who was returning from a previous call and came upon the accident. The crews from Engine 1-8-8 and Heavy Rescue 1-8-15 handled a fuel spill and secured the vehicles. Second Assistant Chief Caroleo was in charge of the scene. This accident is currently under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department.
