Phelps Lane House Fire

The North Babylon Fire Company was alerted for a house fire at 60 Phelps Lane just after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday August 7, 2013. The first unit on the road was Second Assistant Chief Caroleo 1-8-32 who was advised that numerous calls were being received. Upon Chief Caroleos' arrival, heavy fire was showing from the number 3 exposure and was extending into the attic. First Due Engine 1-8-4 picked up a hydrant on the way in and stretched multiple lines into the house with the crew from 1-8-8 and mutual aid. Babylon Ladder 1-2-8 was the First Due Truck and it's crew began laddering, searching and venting the home. The Deer Park Fire Department was requested for an Engine bringing 1-4-9 to the scene as well as West Babylon Ladder 1-9-4 as an additional truck. The Babylon Fire Department also sent an Engine bringing 1-2-5 in, West Islip Engine 3-17-7 was originally called for RIT but was put to work and replaced by West Babylon Engine 1-9-6. During the fire a total of four hand lines were used to bring the fire under control in about an hour with the house heavily damaged. Additional mutual aid was provided by the Wyandanch Fire Company, North Lindenhurst Fire Department and Wyandanch- Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corps. who stood by at North Babylon Station 1. The cause of the fire is under investigation and there were no serious injuries reported.
