MVA With Entrapment on the Southern State Pkwy

November 12th, 2011 the North Babylon Fire Company was alerted for a one car motor vehicle accident with one patient requiring extrication on the eastbound portion of the Southern State Parkway between exits 36 and 37 @ 0336 hrs. Police were the first to arrive on scene, and immediately requested aviation and a rush on EMS and Heavy Rescue for one unconscious patient with severe trauma. Upon arrival on scene, units from Heavy Rescue 1-8-15, Engine 1-8-2 and Engine 1-8-8 began to extricate the patient while the crew from Rescue's 1-8-7 & 17 treated the patient for extrication and transport. Due to the large amount of damage to the vehicle, which also struck a tree, several Hurst Tools were put into operation to extricate the patient. Upon extrication the patient was transferred to Suffolk County Police Aviation and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.The road was closed for about three hours as the cause of the accident was investigated and the roadway cleared. 1st Assistant Chief Thomas Jordan was in command of the scene.
