North Babylon Responds to Fatal New Years Eve Fire

At approximately 10:06pm on New Years Eve Monday, December 31, 2012 the North Babylon Volunteer Fire Company was alerted from Babylon Central Fire Alarm Dispatch of a heavily involved house fire at 37 Peacock Lane. First unit on scene was 2nd Assistant Chief Robert Cabano who reported to all other units that the fire was well advanced and showing out the front of house and the sound of ammunition was going off inside the residence. North Babylon Engine 1-8-1 and Heavy Rescue 1-8-5 arrived together and their crews began initial attack operation after the sound of the ammunition ceased, with all all other units immediately following. Once firefighters were able to advance into the structure primary and secondary searches began with one victim located at the front of the structure, who succumbed to his injuries. The fire took about an hour to bring under control. One firefighter suffered injuries and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and later released. All units were under the command of Chief George Folise. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Assistance from neighboring Departments was given by the West Babylon, Babylon Village, and West Islip Fire Departments to the scene and the Deer Park Fire Department standing by at our headquarters.
